born into brothels (2004)

as always here is a short plot summary (thanks once again to imdb): This film is a chronicle of filmmakers Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman's efforts to show that world of Calcutta's red light district. To do that, they inspired a special group of children of the prostitutes of the area to photograph the most reluctant subjects of it.

I'm really stuck on docs right now. These kids have it hard. I can't even think what I would do if that was my life. Their photographs are amazing. I really want to go out and buy the book, if nothing else then to just support them.

The film is very personable, the filmmakers are characters themselves. They care about these kids and their futures. Most of the time it is very heartbreaking to see the everyday lives that these children deal with. Photography is really their only escape. Technically I'm not going to talk about anything. I'm still dealing with the everything else. I think I just like the ideal that photography somewhat saved these kids, if not forever but at least for sometime.

i stand: ART IS TRULY UNIVERSAL.
