subtitled: a look at the landmark brown vs the board of education.
this is a film by peter gilbert (producer of Hoop Dreams and Stevie). the film reunites many of the leaders and children that were involved with all the court cases that lead to the supreme court case of Brown vs the Board of Ed. When looking at docs I always have to deal with them on a more personal level. It's a form of education you have to remember. I being a citizen of the US knew the general notation of the case but not the circumstances that leaded up to it or the outcome/long time that on a state level kept putting off desegregation. One school district instead of integrating schools just closed all public schools for a period of five years before being forced to reopen them.
The film does take a short look at how this case has effected schools today, but also that the same may be continue just this time no dealing with race but with class.
the film is somewhat long and at sometimes unfocused. but I think that the message is there and a education/lesson is told and unstood.
i stand: A HISTORY IGNORED IS A HISTORY REPEATED
